It is the reason we fine-tune rather than sell a fixed product. A model tuned on the range of drawings you actually receive handles that range; a general model tuned on none of it does not.

The situation

The bottleneck is measuring, and it always lands at the worst moment

Drawings arrive late, the bid is due, and the first two days go on counting and scaling rather than on the decisions that actually determine whether the number is any good. Add a revision mid-week and a good part of that work is done twice.
